In the Fall of 2017, Jackson County Transportation, Inc. of Florida (JTrans) partnered with the City of Marianna, Jackson County School Board, and DHM to install brand new 12’ by 5’ bus stop shelters. October 10, 2018, Hurricane Michael destroyed both shelters. On Friday, February 8, 2019, the City of Marianna, Jackson County School Board, JTrans and Melvin Engineering joined forces to replace and rebuild what Hurricane Michael destroyed.

Both bus shelters are at their original locations: On Orange Street, across from St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church, and the corner of Jefferson and Clinton Streets, adjacent to the Jackson County School Board offices. These shelters will continue to provide the dual function of serving area residents riding the JTrans Marianna City Bus in addition to students catching the school bus.

This was a successful community service project, with installation by Melvin Engineering staff, along with Jim Dean, Marianna’s City Manager, and Stuart Wiggins with the Jackson County School Board, and additional volunteers. After the installation was complete, the team was treated to a fish fry lunch by JTrans.

The City of Marianna and JTrans jointly fund the Bus Route serving from the west end of Marianna to Walmart. The City bus operates every Tuesday and Friday and charges one dollar for adults and fifty cents for children under 10 years old.

JTrans is Jackson County’s coordinated transportation provider and is operated as a private nonprofit organization. Any Jackson County resident may request services from JTrans. Transportation may be requested to obtain access to healthcare, employment, education, shopping, social or other activities. They are located at 3988 Old Cottondale Road, Marianna, FL 32448 Telephone: (850)482-7433 Website: www.jtrans.org
